"Cat in the Hat" to visit Edison PPL students Thursday
K-5 Students will celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday, "Read Across America" day
WHAT: On Thursday, March 2, more than 20 students (Kindergarten-5th grade) at Edison PPL Elementary School in Minneapolis will celebrate "Read Across America" day and Dr. Seuss birthday.
PHOTO OP: The "Cat in the Hat" (Augsburg College America Reads coordinator Katie Flater) will deliver a birthday cake for Dr. Seuss, the students will sing happy birthday and eat cake, and then Seuss's The Cat in the Hat will be read to the students by Flater. Ten tutors (Augsburg College students) will then split the students into small groups and read Dr. Seuss books to the students as part of weekly Book Club activities.
WHEN: Thursday, March 2 at 3:45 p.m. Students will begin filing into room at 3:45 p.m., take attendance and then festivities will start between 3:50 p.m. and 3:55 p.m. The Book Club will conclude by 5:05 p.m.

This is the second year that Augsburg College has participated in the America Reads program for K-5 students at Edison PPL Elementary School in Minneapolis. As part of this program, 14 Augsburg students serve during the year as reading tutors for the Book Club at Edison PPL, with each Augsburg student working between six to eight hours per week. An additional seven Augsburg students are serving as tutors for the Math Club (5th-7th grades) part of the America Counts Program--at Edison PPL Elementary School.
